Microsoft, getting hasty or smart?
.
The MS-YAHOO! drama seems to be just escalating with the passing of every day. Recently Icahn confirmed that he would be commencing a proxy fight to remove Yahoo's Board of Directors in response to their "irrational" actions in rejecting Microsoft's takeover bid. And now it is being speculated that Microsoft is gearing up to acquire Facebook for a reported $20 billion. If you are wondering as to why Microsoft has suddenly decided to go on a shopping spree, trying to acquire YAHOO! for $31 a share, or $44.6 billion for all the shares, and then shell out another $20 billion for Facebook, then let us keep in mind that the recent findings have shown that Google has even overtaken YAHOO! as the most visited website in the US with 141 visitors, and YAHOO! at around 140.6 million visitors, while a concerned Microsoft seems to be way behind at 121.2 million users. Clearly Microsoft is threatened by Google’s stronghold over the search engine market. It stands a good chance however, if it acquires YAHOO!, or atleast joins hands with it, to put on a good fight against Google, which just seems unstoppable at the moment. Microsoft seems also threatened by the idea of YAHOO! and Google coming to any kind of an agreement, an idea backed by its co-founder Jerry Yang. Only time will tell which side YAHOO! will choose, because with Icahn bringing in the proxy fight, the YAHOO! board is more than threatened to rush things up, still keeping in view the better of the shareholders.

Touch n Go...
I personally feel all of Microsoft's recent moves(financial and takeovers) have been Google pressurized/influenced than thought out moves...
However, acquiring yahoo would be a major boost for them considering yahoo as a service is competitive(obviously w.r.t Google) and is major service provider in its own right....
there i said it!!

very correct...all moves by yahoo, microsoft ,aol seems to be Google influenced only. And I feel there should be some competition to control google's monopoly.
